Seamless Transfer to Baylor University

Baylor Bound is a special agreement between TJC and Baylor University to allow our students to easily transfer classes and credits after graduating from TJC.

Baylor Bound will serve highly motivated Tyler Junior College students who, upon meeting the agreement’s criteria, will transfer to Baylor toward the goal of completing their undergraduate degree.

About the Agreement

TJC students who become part of Baylor Bound can choose a plan from 65 distinct majors, all of which are articulated through specific MAPS – or Major Academic Planners – that will assist them as they move toward timely degree completion.

Most students in Baylor Bound will take classes for one year at TJC and three years at Baylor. However, some students may be approved to take two years at TJC and two at Baylor, depending on the student’s major and number of transfer credit hours.

Students must be enrolled in an approved A.A. or A.S. academic program leading to an approved Baylor B.B.A., B.A., B.S.W. or B.S. degree and refer to Baylor’s Major Academic Planner when planning coursework.

Advisors from TJC will help students select courses that satisfy program requirements as according to the Major Academic Planners provided by Baylor advisors to allow for a successful transition from TJC to full-time status at Baylor. TJC Baylor Bound students also will receive information about scholarships for transfer students and special transfer residential experiences, special mailings and scheduled visits with Baylor representatives and access to Baylor’s libraries.

Baylor Bound allows students to get a Baylor degree at a more affordable price without sacrificing quality. All TJC courses outlined by the agreement have been approved by Baylor to meet its standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

To apply for the Baylor Bound program, students must be admitted to TJC and have a TJC student ID (A#) and password. After being admitted to TJC, students will be required to complete the Baylor Bound program interest form.

Baylor Bound is available to all students pursuing a degree in one of the participating Baylor bound majors. To transfer to Baylor, however, a student must meet Baylor transfer admission criteria.

To apply for transfer to Baylor, students must create an account through Baylor’s admissions portal, goBaylor. This tool will guide students through the admissions process one step at a time – from submitting their application to negotiating housing decisions, advising and registering for classes.

Academic requirements for Transfer Admission:

  • The median GPA range for accepted transfer students is 3.1-3.6 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be eligible to return to Tyler Junior College or any other college/university previously attended.
  • Plan to transfer no later than the end of your sophomore year (at least 60 hours must be earned in residence at Baylor, including the last 30, in order to obtain a degree from Baylor).
  • If you will have fewer than 24 credit hours, you must meet freshman admission standards.

Students participating in the Baylor Bound Program will apply for scholarships using the TJC general scholarship application while attending TJC and will apply for academic scholarships to Baylor by virtue of their application for admission when preparing to transfer. Based on the high standards set by Baylor for freshman acceptance, TJC also has high expectations for students entering as freshman to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, which could qualify students for our Presidential Honors Scholarship. TJC awards the Presidential Honors Scholarship to eligible students who apply for scholarships and meet ONE of the three following criteria:

  1. Rank in the top ten percent of their high school class at the completion of their junior year;
  2. Rank in one of the top ten positions of their high school class at the completion of their junior year and demonstrate college readiness as defined through the Texas Success Initiative;
  3. Achieve at least a 3.5 unweighted high school GPA and a composite score of 26 on the ACT (minimum of 19 on both the English and mathematics sub-tests required) OR a combined SAT score of 1200 or higher on the math and critical reading sub-tests (minimum of 500 on both sub-tests required).

Students who graduate from any TJC service area high school and meet one of the first two criteria listed above are guaranteed the Presidential Honors Scholarship upon successful completion of acceptance requirements. All other applicants will be awarded based on a competitive review process.

Baylor University uses a four-year planning guide called MAPs (Major Academic Planners) to help students summarize information about majors and the basic academic requirements needed to graduate. Most MAPs for the majors available with Baylor Bound accommodate a 1+3 year plan. For example, a student would take one year of courses at Tyler Junior College and three years at Baylor. However, some students may be approved by the academic advisor to follow a 2+2 year plan at the end of their first year, depending upon the major chosen and the number of transfer credits or credit by exam hours completed prior to enrolling in Baylor Bound.
