TJC offers the prerequisite courses needed for admission into professional schools in various health fields.
These professions typically require that students earn a bachelor’s degree prior to admission, and many students choose to complete an Associate of Science degree in biology while at TJC.
Students should meet with an academic advisor to review the course requirements for their field of interest and customize the degree plan accordingly. Acceptance into professional schools is competitive and applicants must demonstrate above-average academic ability, adult maturity and a strong motivation for their chosen field.
Career Paths
Pre-Dental
Dentists examine and treat diseases, injuries and malformation of teeth, gums and mouth.
Pre-Med
Physicians care for healthy people and for those who are ill or injured.
Pre-Pharmacy
The role of the pharmacist has evolved from one who simply fills prescriptions to that of an active member of the primary health care team.
Pre-Physical Therapy
Physical therapists work with patients who have lost certain physical abilities through injury or illness to relieve their pain, help them regain physical strength, help them recover the use of an afflicted limb, or relearn how to perform the activities of daily living.
Pre-Physicians Assistant
Physician assistants (PA) work directly under the supervision of a doctor to perform a wide variety of health care services.
Pre-Veterinary
Veterinarians, or doctors of veterinary medicine (D.V.M.), protect the health and welfare of all animals and therefore society as a whole.
